Great Plains Community Church Sermon Notes - June 20, 2010

Becoming A Spiritual Leader
(1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 - You and God are witnesses how holily and justly and blamelessly we were to you who believe, even as you know how we exhorted and comforted and testified to each one of you, as a father to his children, that you should walk worthy of God, who has called you to His kingdom and glory.)

Three Steps To Spiritual Leadership

Step One: Fathers must have the right aim in life
(Verse 12 - that you should walk worthy of God)

Aim Includes:
* Seeing children come to faith in Christ
* Becoming a good Christian

(Colossians 2:6 - As you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him.)

Step Two: Fathers must have the right attitude
(Verse 10 - You and God are witnesses how holily and justly and blamelessly we were to you who believe)

Have to have a right attitude:
* Receive Jesus as your Savior
(John 3:3 - Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.)
* Need to be filled with the Holy Spirit
* Need communication with God
(James 5:16 - The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.)
* Commit yourself to the task

Step Three: Fathers must be committed to the right kind of activity
(Verse 12 - even as you know how we exhorted and comforted and testified to each one of you, as a father to his children)

Needed Activities:
* Mold the children
(Matthew 20:26-28 - But it shall not be among you; but whosoever will be great among you...let him be your servant, even as the Son of Man came, not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life a ransom for many.)
* Teach children to respond to authority
(Proverbs 29:17 - Discipline your son, and he will give you peace, he will bring delight to your soul.)
(Proverbs 13:24 - He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.)
* Provide love to your children
